A question about hypopituitarism and hypogonadism, low LH/FSH and testosterone levels? In men, the combination of low LH and FSH in combination with a low testosterone confirms LH/FSH deficiency (hypopituitarism), a high testosterone would indicate a source elsewhere in the body (such as a testosterone-secreting tumor). Does that mean that LH/FSH deficiency or hypopituitarism causes low testosterone levels? If not, what causes the low testosterone levels, and must it be present (in addition to low LHFSH) to confirm hypopituitarism? What is the difference between hypopituitarism and hypogonadism? Does one have to have hypogonadism to have low testosterone levels, or could hypopituitarism be sufficient? Sorry if my questions are a little unclear. And please, simple explanations, I am not a doctor.

greydoc6 replied: "Just prior to the onset of puberty the pituitary gland increases its output of LH and FSH. This stimulates the male gonads, the testes, to produce testosterone. Just as with the ovaries in the female, there is a feedback mechanism. High testosterone levels signal the pituitary to cut back on LH and FSH production. Low testosterone levels signal the pituitary to increase LH and FSH production. If all three hormone levels are low, the most likely cause is hypopituitarism, meaning that the pituitary is not producing the trophic hormones, namely LH and FSH. This is hypopituitarism, and is often associated with what is called secondary hypogonadism.
If the pituitary were normal but the testes were unable to produce testosterone, the FSH and LH levels would be elevated. This would be known as primary hypogonadism.
As you mentioned, a high testosterone level with low FSH and LH levels could indicate a testosterone producing tumor."
WHEAN WILL I HIT PUBERTY! And how to i know if i have hypogonadism or low testosterone? Im a 14.6 year old male and so far nothing has changed in my body since i was 11 or 12. Only changes are that i have pubic hair slight teste and penis growth and armpit arm and leg hair. I havent even hit my growth spurt yet im just 55 and most people in my grade (grade 9) are taller me, my voice hasnt showed the slightest change and i have a high embarassing voice, and i have no muscles and look really scrawny. Please i need proper info this is really embarassing even my freinds make fun of me about it, and most people that are going through the same thing have hypogonadism and basically have to take testosterone pills for ever which i dont like the sound of, and im to embaressed or scared to ask my parents to see a doctor. Please Help with good info! And plz dont say i have to wait cause ive been waiting and so far nothings been happenening!. Pleae its really embarassing.
Q replied: "You're going to have to decide which is more important: giving in to your embarrassment, or getting up the courage to talk to your parents to ask them to take you to an adolescent endocrinologist. If you do have a problem (and there's no way for me to tell if you do or not), then it's better to get it checked out and corrected sooner rather than later--every year you wait means missed opportunities for growth and maturation. So please get over your embarrassment and ask your parents. You don't have to say to them anything about no changes in your naughty bits. You can just say that you're worried that you haven't had your growth spurt, your voice hasn't changed, and your muscles aren't growing. I think you can say all that without too much embarrassment--it's what others have already seen, so you won't be saying anything new. Good luck!"
low testosterone levels?can i get married? i have testosterone levels just above 250 ng/dl and FSH N LH level normal. six months ago my testosterone level was 550 ng/dl with FSH norma and LH lil high which meant i have a condition called hypogonadism or primary testicular failure. but now both LH and FSH are normal and testosterone is low. can i get married and father a child?
secondary sexual characteristics in 26 y/o male w/ low testosterone - will they all improve? i'm a 26 year old male who suffered a head injury in 1999. i've had very low/low normal testosterone levels ever since. i've had many of the symptoms of this - erectile dysfunction, fatigue, limited facial hair, etc. what i want to know is this : i was 18 when i suffered the head injury and had not finished through puberty from what i could tell (could only grow a patchy beard. no one in my family can't grow one - father, both grandfathers, etc)... this is a bit different from my other concerns, but i'm wondering - will my penis get any larger with treatment? it is around 6 inches now, but i'm wondering - if my testosterone deficiency started before i finished through puberty, that means my penis probably didn't get to "full size" right? i have had some ED problems since my head injury, probably related to the lowered testosterone.
strange question, i know. and it's not nearly as important as the other problems of hypogonadism. i'm at 6" now which is respectable, but more is better.=)
oh, btw... the "treatment" i'm referring to is androgel, which i am starting this week.
oh, btw... the "treatment" i'm referring to is androgel, which i am starting this week...
starting at 2.5mg androgel applied daily and seeing how effective that is...
thanks gyoza... anybody else have additional details/insight?
gyoza1216 replied: "You'll have to ask your doctor about that one. Only he can give you the professional answers you seek. In my studies with the human body, there is no link between testosterone and the size of your penis. Testosterone controls sexual urges, body hair, the lowering of your voice, all that good stuff. Your penis grows like your arms do. So chances are you'll get more body hair, a lower voice, and some stronger sexual urges, maybe even some anger problems but your penis is done growing. 6" is above the average anyway."

CoolDude : i am receiving treatment from an endocrinologist... i have had some of my questions answered, but forgot to ask him about penis size in particular. he had already told me i was fully developed there, etc. so that was kind of the end of it... you know how hard it is to get all of your questions out at an appointment! :) anyway, i'm sure he meant "sufficiently" developed. "some men are bigger than others" right? so, i'm wondering if i could possibly have more growing to do there that might be spurred by the treatment.
Elaine P replied: "Well, good luck. Most women lie to men; size DOES matter!"
CoolDude replied: "I'm guessing the head injury affected the pituitary gland (if I have my glands right), which is responsible for telling your testicles to produce testosterone, which generates secondary sexual characteristics.
If you're not being treated by an endocrinologist, you certainly should be. You have some questions that lead me to believe if you were being treated by a hormone specialist, you'd already know the answers. I have no idea what your potential is for improvement at this stage, but this kind of expert would certainly know better than anyone here. Good luck."
xxxtina63 replied: "Chances are, it won't get any bigger, even with treatment. Testosterone treatments may help you grow a beard, grow muscle mass, or even help with ED, but probably won't increase size. At 6-7 inches, you are in the acceptable average, at least as far as I have read. More is only better to a point. Ask women. They'll tell you that too big is not satisfaction. It's painful."
david b replied: "While I am not familiar with the drug you mention. I have looked into hormones and their effects on the body. I would guess that you should see improvement in hair growth, ED function, energy levels and emotional stability. I don't believe you will gain any more length or size of your penis. While testosterone has something to do with the size, the primary gland is the pituitary."
Searcher replied: "since a lot fo yoru questions are alrteady covered, al I wil add is that the average erect adult penis is just shy of 6 inches. Thsu your length is already fine."

TKS replied: "Of course you can get married. With a doctor's help you may be able to have children, but marrying someone who was comfortable adopting or another option would be best."
Apersonlol replied: "You already asked this!"
J L replied: "You must be getting tested to get the testosterone levels. Get a sperm count and quality test. That is the only factor that matters for fathering children."
Markietellme replied: "Yes you can and I imagine if you have these blood tests already then you are seeing an endocrinologist. If not, get one."
Last year I was diagnosed as having extremely low testosterone, then more tests were done and later I was...? diasnosed as having extremely low adrenal functions and failing, low and failing pituitary function, low and failing thyroid function. Now there are all these other terms doctors love to use such as Panhypopituitaryism, hypothyroidism, hypogonadism and so on. Since all of these damn diagnosis I am now having to take Prednisone, synthroid and androgen or testosterone patches. The Endocrine doctor tells me there is no tumor in or on or around my pituitary gland. So does anyone in the medical field know what the cause may be of all these damn diagnosis? What will happen to me if I stopped all the above named medications all at once? Your help is appreciated.

hope u get better
idk"

Hypopituitarism means that one or more chemicals produced in the Panhypopituitarism are low The Panhypopituitarism is in the back of the brain/top of the spine, and makes 8 different hormones.
The causes are unknown, but they think there may be a link between major brain injury.
Its luck it has been diagnosed, so the hormone replacement has started, instead of leaving it to get worse. Another plus is also that there is no tumour on the perpituory gland, as this is usually a cause for these chemicals being low. Have a look around google. Dont scare yourself, and always talk to your doctor if you are worries about something.
Please listen to this advise, having very low levels or certian leveles of hormones may be dangerous to your body
Cheers

ufc fan replied: "Cause is not known some would argue that's just how some people are born and others would say something happened to the brain such as some sort of injury.
So not stop taking your med's believe it or not those meds are really helping you don't stop taking them unless your doctor tells you too.
Also dear it's a good idea always to get a second opinion.
If you stop your meds you could feel tired and sick all the time and that's no fun."
