shine_45_down replied: "I'm sure I'm about to get a bunch of thumbs-down, but why can't people just choose to let other people smoke if they want? Why must they force their views on everyone? Smokers know the risks they are taking, therefore, it's their own business. And now, schools are getting in the middle of it. Damn indoctrination."

Aud replied: "I saw this sign on a fishing boat once that said "No Puffin Allowed" And it had a picture of a puffin (a bird similar to a penguin) that was smoking and it was crossed out in red like you see 'no smoking signs' these days. Was pretty cute. And, go figure, it is the only no smoking sign I can ever remember."

Tommy Nestro replied: ""End the life of the cigarette, not your own." "Beat those cravings and show who's boss." "Fight your way into a non-smoking life." I'm not very good at this. ;D"

slinkymalinky333 replied: "Hi! I like "Too Smart to Start" best. It's catchier, and makes more sense than the others. Another suggestion I have would be "Dying for a Cigarette" or "Dying for a Smoke." Or something like "Don't let your life go up in smoke." Good luck with your project."

Bill P replied: "too smart to start I think shorter is better. You did better than I."

which one do you.....? like better for a slogan for people to stop smoking. (it's kind of catchy) 1) Don't do drugs.. Get Sconed! or 2)Don't smoke.. Get sconed! don't asked how i got these okay. just don't. it's a really really weird story that i don't want to tell. it has to do with eating the food scones.

pyt20 * fo sho* replied: "whats sconed?"

♥ Olya :P replied: "If you try to stop people from smoking do the smoking one, because the drugs give you other thoughts about the slogan."

ღ100%Angelღ replied: "1st one"

So where will all the money come from that the government will lose in taxes? When the law comes in later this year on the smoking ban the government are hoping to get the public to quit the habit but they make a lot of money from smokers in taxation so where do you think that money shortfall will come from. I'll tell you where the tax payer in one form or another. I am a smoker and will not be giving up,why should i we do not live in a dictatorship but its getting that way and soon the government will want to control everything that we do. Maybe we should start carrying our papers around with us now like in germany during the war so the police can stop us at any time and demand to see them and cart us off if we dont have them with us. If we accept this ban it will escalate to no smoking anywhere and before you know it they will be able to imprison you for doing it. Whatever happened to human rights and the freedom to choose what you do with your own body. JUST SAY NO WAS AN ANTI-DRUG SLOGAN BACK IN THE 80S NOW IT SHOULD BE USED AGAINST THE GOVERNMENT FOR TH

snooksville replied: "Any shortfall will be more than made up for by the savings on treating people with lung cancer and other diseases caused directly by smoking."

Prince Louis La Caltoupe IV replied: "they'll hike something else up one day oil revenues will stop, and they'll be screwed, but they'll just tax something else to make up for it ...."

breezinabout replied: "If you want to smoke then do it in your own space not in mine. You are a health and a fire hazard. Your Right, as you put it, to smoke, stops, where my lungs begin."

TE replied: "I think one thing you should understand is that your smoking does not only affect you, but innocent bystanders as well. I am a former smoker for 24 yrs. I quit cold turkey and am so glad I did. I have been smoke free for 4 yrs and feel so good, like I am young again. I was like you when I was a smoker, I didn't care about anyone, but seeing the other side of the issue will open your eyes. You may have the freedom of choice, but perhaps they should allow smoking locations for all smokers that won't bother anyone else."

corky replied: "Greaseball Taxgrabber Brown has a whole arsenal of Stealth Taxes ready and raring to go! this useless person lives and breathes tax/persecution."

mike-from-spain replied: "What they are hoping is that they will save loads of money by having less ill people, less people getting lung and heart disease, less people being admitted into hospital. I FULLY AGREE WITH THE BAN AND IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE EARLIER."

Sunny-T replied: "Good...I'm all for the ban.."

Smooth Operator replied: "Gordon will either raise National Insurance contributions or raise Income Tax on the claim that the NHS, police and the Home Office are doing such a great job that they need more money to continue their good work."

frankturk50 replied: "I agree with ban and I am a smoker. The argument that it will save money for health services not having to treat smoke related desease is good but not in the short time and it could take years for the results to surface. Also revenues will be lost when smokers stop visiting restuarants, bars etc and staying home. Therefore this is a very question and it seems that the answer is that other taxes will have to be implimented."

Are our local councils just money grabbing machines .? Since our local councils got a little bit of control , have they all turned into little hitlers.I live in scotland near Edinburgh, you can be fined for dropping litter ,smoking in public places ,fined for leaving your bin too full ,fined for dog fouling and fined for putting the wrong rubbish in your own bin . Is it not time that this was left in the hands of the police . theses are laws only for that region you are in . most parts of the country where the councils make walk ways they do not provide a bin ,but this is ok because there is not a warden to fine them . The slogan just now is stop germs , use it and bin it . when a dog walker uses one of our walkways they are expected to carry dog foul back home as there is no bins to use .Double standards. is it time these councils were stripped of there stupid enforcements. Andrew i get what you mean but what about the people outside edinburgh . if the council do not have the wardens they do not have the bins .this is because they do not make money from it outside the towns .when i requested a bin at the right of way ,i was told that people would not use it . that is very WRONG. also ,scrap alluminium is at a high price . we sort it out but we do not see what returns our council make from this .recycling is a very high profit making buisness but our local government just keep filling pockets with our money.

Andrew replied: "In your words:"you can be fined for dropping litter ,smoking in public places ,fined for leaving your bin too full ,fined for dog fouling and fined for putting the wrong rubbish in your own bin" Sorry old son but I can't see anything wrong about any of that. Why should I pay for the collection of litter you're too lazy to take home? Who wants to tread in dog poo? The rubbish in the wrong bin thing, well it's just sheer idleness if you can't sort the rubbish out, do you really want landfill sites full of stuff that can be recycled? Smoking is filthy disgusting thing to inflict on people who don't want to breathe in your leftover particulates."

Gx replied: "yes they are and now they are using anti terrorists laws to spy on us. A local school not far from where i live was closed down a few years ago and the land was sold on to a building developer, what wrong with that you may ask, well the council spent 100 of thousands of pounds doing the school up and building a new swimming pool 12 months before the school was closed. waste to tax payers money when they already knew they where closing the school down before the renovations began. but there is more, the council who agreed all this was latter found guilty of taking backhanders because the building company who did the renovations where the ones who bought the land to develop . and people think only mp's are corrupt."

Wired up replied: "Councils are too lenient on dog owners who allow their dogs to foul outside, if they can own a dog then they can clear its crap up. Double bagged into a bag then binned at home or a nearby bin whats hard about that? Is it ok for a mother with a pram or a wheelchair user to get dog excrement over their hands. If i was in charge of the dog wardens any dog found fouling would be destroyed. If you have a problem with the council write them an email"

Kit Fang replied: "Don't you think the police have better things to be doing, rather than giving out fines (and then doing hours of paper work) for something like over-filling your bin? I think they are money-grabbing though. My council, Kent, lost millions in the Iceland collapse, but my question is why the hell did they have all this money in a bank in the first place, rather than spending it? If they don't need to spend it, why are they taxing us so much? I see where you're coming from, but then again, I wouldn't really want my pavements covered in dog mess, or litter, and if the only way to enforce it is to fine people, I'm all for it. Luckily we don't have to sort out rubbish into bins - the council pays someone to do it for us, but if your council doesn't, well, maybe they shouldn't fine you, but there really is no other excuse but laziness."

rdenig_male replied: "Councils have always had enforcement powers over a number of things. Some like enforcement of food hygiene and housing conditions - and the enforcement of the smoking ban - are given to them by Central Government (would you really want to live in a country where there was no control over the standard of food sold to you?), others are the result of the making of bye-laws - such as rules against dog fouling - which have to be approved by central authority before coming into force. The police do not have the time, nor the expertise to enforce these matters. Are you really suggesting that they should have an Environmental Health Department or Trading Standards Department? With the greatest respect, you haven't thought things through properly. Note to Kit Fang. Councils have money in the bank (a) because they have income which has to be saved before it is spent and (b) because Central Government controls what they can spend anyway."

Al replied: "Well...you need to ask yourself a question "do I want to live in a untidy town", I can understand about the bin problem BUT to have dog shit everywhere and litter, I wouldn't like it."

Baron F'ken Angry II replied: "Yep. + Council officials = Complete tossers. + Council workers = Useless gits. The world would be a much better place without them."

Old Cynic replied: "There is nothing stopping you collecting aluminium yourself and selling it for scrap. Good luck. The council is quite right to fine people for littering, and for failing to collect the faeces their dog drops. I don't want to stand in it, don't want it on my carpet, and don't want it blinding my child. I would go a step further, and not only fine people for their dogs fouling, but also confiscate the dog and ban them from owning another. There is nothing stupid to me about fining people for these things. You may be happy to live in shit. Don't expect me to."

mikydotcom@btinternet.com replied: "Yes--they are money grabbing machines--all over the country."
