What Can You Take For Heartburn During Pregnancy Posts in Q&A
what can i take for heartburn during pregnancy? im 10 weeks prego and very sick and have heartburn what can i take besides tums or rolaids? is there anything else safe?

Mrs.Jackson is now due May 13th! replied: "Tum, tum, tum, tum , TUMS!!!! and they're good for calcium too! I keep a bottle next to my bed at night, lol.."

theotherwoman replied: "i wish i knew of something. I live off tums."

Kitty replied: "i believe mylanta is safe but you can always call the doctors office and ask for different things to take."

Hope to see baby soon! replied: "My docs told me pretty much anything is safe for heartburn. I asked her about it and she gave me a script for Zantac 150mg to take twice a day. Non-medicinal - try eating an apple or visit your local health food store for some papaya extract tablets. They both work wonders!"

TTC#2 replied: "Maalox and Mylanta work. I had to take them a few times. Tums were my best friend. I went through so many bottles during my pregnancy!"

Phantom J9 DUE 6.6.09 replied: "My doctor said TUMS are a huge no no. Mylanta is what she said was the best for pregnant women. I asked last week because I've been going nuts with this heartburn! lol"

Trinity replied: "no thats about it for over the counters. honestly there isnt much u can do for heart burn if those things arent working. if its so sever u can call up your doctor and see if maybe he can prescribe u something"

bunny replied: "milk.....works wonders for me x"

titi replied: "you shouldn't take anything such as:drugs[medicine]. Because it can harm your baby. You should see your doctor."

*Loving Mommy of soon to be 4* replied: "Well tums of course is always your friend during pregnancy but also papaya extracts (can be found at any vitamin store) you take it right after meals it keeps it to a minimum and then tums for the break through painful stuff. There is a morning sickness pill my doc gave me that also helps heartburn not sure if they will give it to you for just that without puking your guts out but its called reglan and it helps me take my vitamins without throwing them up as well as mexican food etc without heartburn making me cry later. Stay away from caffinated drinks, carbonated drinks and for some reason not sure if this is just me but nestle chocolate (not other chocolates) gives me the worst heartburn lol:)"

jadepeeps81 replied: "dried fruits (apricots), ginger pills, dry toast. Nausea and morning sickness will go away at about 12 weeks, but the heartburn lasts for the whole pregnancy unfortunately. Tums are lifesavers, but stay away from acidic foods like red (marinara) sauce, fried foods, and heavy things like gravy. Eat 6 small meals a day instead of 3 large meals. Good luck, you will feel much better in about three weeks hopefully. The second trimester is a glorious and wonderful time for the majority of women."

1st Baby due 6/21/09! replied: "My Dr. gave me a list of safe medications to take during pregnancy and for heartburn it lists Maalox, Mylanta, Pepcid and Tums."

kahlien05 replied: "no clue i lived off of tums.try drinkin milk"

jjjkylan replied: "The only thing my doctor told me I could take is tums"

CheyEbz replied: "the doctor gave me something similar to gaviscon but pineapple is supposed to help!"

Tati replied: "my OB okayed pepcid... tums just wasnt doing it for me and i know i was taking more than you are supposed to, the pepcid taken twice a day works wonderful, and i am stll allowed an occasional tums if heart burn does still break through"

Starsfan14 replied: "Pepcid AC is safe or the store brand version of it is fine as well. My doctor recommends it. Just follow the dosing on the package and you should be fine. So try that for a while. If it gets much worse you can ask your doctor for a prescription. With my first pregnancy, Pepcid helped for awhile. Then after 27 weeks it got too bad and I was having bad heartburn all the time. So my doctor put me on Protonix. So there are over the counter medicines and prescriptions that are fine for pregnant woman. I am sure one will work for you."

luvinlife replied: "tums, rolaids, generic antacids. I've been taking an average of about 8/day - most of them at night. If you are looking for anything else, ask your doctor to see what he/she recommends. Good luck!"

Force replied: "Ohhhh, Maalox!!!!! I loved Maalox while I was pregnant because it was the only thing that helped with that awful acid and burping and gas pain. Ofcourse, it also helped with the constipation and that was a big plus! Good luck and "Happy Baby!""

katyelizabeth1983 replied: "Hi a natural remedy would be milk. Preferably semi skimmed or whole milk. Or if you dont like milk then try gaviscon either the liquid or tablet form will be good enough."

Lulu86 replied: "Gaviscon, but not the syrup, just because it's DISGUSTING! hehe try the gaviscon tablets, so much easier to take!"

mistydee_23 replied: "Gaviscon, says on the bottle it's fine during pregnancy. You could also try having a cup of peppermint tea after your meals, which helped me. Try to avoid fizzy drinks, spicy foods and anything too fatty. Some people find that avoiding cheese helps. Also, make sure you eat a good 2 1/2-3 hours before you go to bed to give your body chance to digest your meal before you lay down"

lucky lady 80 replied: "my doctor told me to take tums...but SUPRISE SUPRISE it didn't work. The only thing that I found that worked for me were pink peppermints. I ate bags of them. They settled my tummy, took away morning sickness and heartburn. I know the sugar wasn't good, but it sure helped me."

nicole t replied: "TUMS ARE THE BEST!!! Carry them with you always!!!!!!!! Buy the biggest container! 10 weeks and heartbearn already??? Yeah buy the biggest container you're gonna need em!"

Jessie replied: "Tums. That's pretty much the only thing you can take. You can also try drinking some milk or eating bland things like saltines or a piece of bread. Stay away from things like sauces and spices foods for now. If you see your doctor he/she might be able to perscribe you something."

CareBear420 replied: "Milk and Tums work for me!!"

JACOB IS NEVER COMING OUT!!! replied: "tums, mylanta, maalox, riopan, titralac, and gaviscon. there are also some that the doctor can prescribe that are safe for the baby if these don't work. My favorite is mylanta or maalox. tums get stuck in your teeth and I hate the taste and the other 3 are I've never heard of but they are on the list."

HEARTBURN DURING PREGNANCY; What can I take for this horrible heartburn I have ? OH MY GOD... It feels like the baby has lit my intestines on fire! It is horrible, even tea, water, like when I drink water and burp the water comes back up, it is horrible. The heartburn is the worst, it hurts so bad! What do you girls take for heartburn while pregnant that works for sure? PLEASE????

Christi replied: "Can you take Tums when you are pregnant?"

Jen replied: "milk is what worked for me"

YEAHHH replied: "You should take tums because its okay for pregnant women, but ask a doctor first."

ellasmommyX2 replied: "Try Tums but you should always ask your doctor before you take anything. My doctor told me to take Tums. If you ever have any questions about medication you want to take pick up the phone. You can call your doctor and leave a message if it's not office hours. They may even call you back before they open up the next day."

Lia V replied: "tums, zantac."

mrsb replied: "my grandmother used to tell me to eat a spoonful of mustard lol and I tried it and it worked but with my last pregnancy my heartburn was real painful also and I had my doctor prescribe me something so just let your doctor know about it."

mary replied: "Gaviscon and lots of it, if your in the UK, you can get it on prescription. I was on a big bottle every 2 days when i was pregnant. x"

Me Stupid replied: "A BULIT"

mrs♥kuchta replied: "The only thing that works for me is lots of Tums!!"

T_Gar replied: "call your dr.'s office to confirm, but my doc was very specific about which otc to take, but think it was zantac 75, but like i said call to confirm or ask the pharmacist. I was the same way, but I was preg. about 4 yrs ago so not clear but pretty sure that was it."

Ooooooh Aaaahhh replied: "Tums will work the best which is also great for calcium intake. You can also take a Tbsp. of mustard or cider vinegar. I feel for you because I remember those days. Avoid greasy fried foods, savory or well seasoned, spicy foods. For now on, treat your diet as if you had acid reflux to avoid heartburn. Contact your doctor if you want to use anything else, every pregnancy is different. Good luck and feel better!"

Isabella's Mummy replied: "I found Mineral Water or Soda Water worked wonders for me cause it made me burp and the pain was gone. Plus it gives you more fluids, is not a medication and is all round better for bub."

kat replied: "OH Yes I can feel your pain.. I had really bad heartburn with my son. I spoke to the doctor about it he informed me to take TUMMS and trust me I did. My husband wanted to by stocks in them. They worked for the most part. He also said that if they didn't work he could prescribe something for it. I took the tumms and held out okay. I will say thing the minute I had him the heartburn was gone and I haven't really had it since(at least there is some light at the end of the tunnel). OH and he had a ton of hair, everyone said he would.. Good Luck"

40 weeks with #1 replied: "rolaids gelusil and tums heartburn SUCKS!!"

Just Me replied: "TUMS and milk worked for me! A lot of times, tea made it worse."

linda m replied: "My list of approved drugs while pregnant from the Dr. has Tums & Mylanta on it for heartburn."

Shannon M replied: "i drink milk well i should say i chug milk tums r ok too but i am so anti taking anything i dont know why but tums if the milk doesn't work is the furthest you should go or talk to your dr... and its tums not rolaids or a nything else...good luck.. by the way lay with your pillows propped up and watch what you eat. sorry but it wont go away till your lil baby is here"

Mommy*2*B replied: "Well, #1, water isn't going to help. How far along are you?? If you're pretty far along, chances are the baby's growth within the uterus has caused your diaphragm to be compressed upwards which lets the acids in your stomach rise, I know EXACTLY what you're going through. I take a generic Prilosec every couple of days and that tends to keep the heartburn at bay (atleast tolerable). Go to WalMart or your local drugstore and get a little box of Omeprazole (it's generic Prilosec, much cheaper) and pop one of those puppies in w/ a glass of milk and you should be ok! If you're still having slight symptoms after that, don't be afraid to pop a few Tums/Rolaids."

Carla C replied: "tums or rolaids try drinking some milk that always helped me."

grandma replied: "Drink some milk. This baby will have a lot of hair probably down to it's shoulder."

Lazer Kidz© replied: "Sounds like you will have a baby with a head full of hair. My mom had the worst heartburn with me and a head full of hair was the reason."

clawdia1978 replied: "I found Rennies work best for me (I have medicated reflux when I'm not pregnant and can't take it whilst I am), but there's also Tums, Gaviscon, Mylanta, there could be others but I'm not sure of the names if there is. The hair myth is just that, a myth, I had it real bad with all of mine, especially the first, she was born almost bald."

♥39wks w/ #2♥Baby Boy!♥1/10/09♥ replied: "I do the following. tums are very infective for me.... I either guzzle milk..or recently egg nog has been on the shelves its thicker..so it coats your throat..providing instant relief...or have some ice cream..not the kind all the goodies in it...like..plain vanilla. that helps too. ALSO..milk shakes!!! these in combination with tums may just do the trick. I feel for you...I REALLY do lol"

JJ replied: "I used Tums but that didn't cut it so my dr. has me use Prilosec (you can also use the generic) and Tums as needed. This has worked for me for my last 3 pregnancies."

Sarah replied: "Hi! I had bad heartburn with all 3 of my kids as well... I wrote a short article on eHow about how to get rid of heartburn,if you want you can check it out . Just as a note, don't drink milk to cure your heartburn, you could make it come back much worse ! Your stomach has to produce more acid to break down the milk, making it very counter-productive in the long run!"

What I can take to stop my heartburn during my pregnancy? This is my second pregnancy and the symptoms are worst then the first. What can I take to stop my heartburn. Milk isn't helping. I had a corn muffin this morning and throat felt like it was on fire. A simple corn muffin. HELP!!!

la_blue_eyes_88 replied: "Tums. they work wonders"

stacy w replied: "tums or rolaids"

Vr replied: "Tums, they are amazing."

MorningNoonNight replied: "I'm in my first trimester, I've only experienced heartburn twice. My Gyno recommended Tums."

Baby Avery is finally here! :) replied: "TUMS : ). I didn't get heart burn until I was about 37 weeks and had my baby at 39 weeks but went through a whole big thing of them lol"

cheyzell replied: "I had never had heartburn in my life until I was in my 2nd pregnancy. I woke up one night with the strangest and painful sensation in my upper chest. I didn't know If I was having a heart attack or if I was going to throw up since the acid came right up into the back of my mouth. Well it was heartburn and I pretty much couldn't sleep without Rolaids. I would wake up every night with heartburn and take 2 and sleep like a baby. Good luck!"

samariatimms@ymail.com replied: "you can take tums and if your still having bad heartburn you ob can prescribe zantac"

MiSS AP0NTE replied: "my doctor said tums or rolaids are perfectly fine but if you feel unsafe taking those, a more natural way to relieve heartburn is warm water with 2 teaspoons of baking soda- not such a great taste but definately works fast!!!"

kendra_letterer replied: "Bananas do the same thing to me... w/every pregnancy I've had! I feel you hun... Tums usually worked for me, but in moderation. I only took one at a time and only when absolutely necessary. If you're not sure about taking meds (even Tums) a bottle of room temp water may work for you. You may have to pee more, but at least the heartburn will be gone! Good luck to you and baby!"

Autumn replied: "Tums. Do not take Rolaids, as they contain aluminum. Also Maalox is good for extremely bad cases of heartburn."

ksh_91 replied: "tums"

pablosgirl replied: "I feel your pain!!!! I am 27 weeks now and have had heartburn since 14 weeks. Although it's only become pretty much constant in the last couple of weeks. I have had 2 quick-eeze tablets in the last hour and a half, plus a glass of milk, but still it keeps coming back :( about to go and eat a kiwifruit and yoghurt as it's afternoon tea time, and know I'm going to pay for it after! But we can't just not eat! I hope someone on here has a magic cure, if so I want to know what it is too!!!"

CP replied: "when i was pregnant with my son my heartburn was 10 times worse than with my daughters. EVERYTHING gave me heartburn, even water and bread! i took tons of the rolaids soft chews, they're pretty good. and i tried to eat small frequent meals throughout the day. and don't eat too close to bed time that'll definitely give you heartburn!"

Milly replied: "I have had heartburn and tried 'Rennies' and 'Gaviscon' but neither worked for me :( I have had to resort to eliminating the foods which trigger my heartburn and the worst thing for setting it off has been chocolate! So no more chocolate for me until baby is born :( I found lemonade helped as the bubbles made me burp and it settled my tummy. Unfortunately heartburn affects us all differently and so that means your cure will probably be as individual as you are! I recommend steering clear of the corn muffins from now on and only eat things that you know won't set you off. Good Luck!"

Tanya C replied: "You can take Rennies here in Australia. I chewed them like lollies when I was pregnant with my 3rd as she gave me the worst heartburn. When it was really bad especially at night, I would sometimes take Mylanta but only at the recommended dose for pregnancy. I don't like taking mylanta too often because it does contain aluminium but the frequency in which I took it, it was not a problem, you just don't go drinking a glass of it every day!! But Rennies were definitely my best friend during pregnancy. You could also ask the chemist what they recommend during pregnancy too. A corn muffin huh? Well normally there isn't much in the muffin mixture itself so maybe there is something in the corn. Have you tried eating just some corn kernels or corn on the cob to see if it happens again, if it does, then this might be something you need to add to your list of "do not eat during pregnancy". Sometimes your body does get a little more sensitive to certain foods that you would otherwise take for granted, all trial and error really but bear in mind, next time round, it might all change again on you so be prepared!! Good luck and all the very best."

chloe is due ♥march 22nd♥! replied: "Tums or antiacids. (which don't help me) Don't eat nor drink anything at least 2 hours before bed. Try sleeping with the top of your body elevated such as in a recliner. Avoid greasy and spicy foods."

Hanna's Mommie replied: "I swore i would NEVER take any medicine while pregnant not even tylenol until my heartburn was soo bad it would wake me in the middle of the night just to vomit all over the place (gross but true) I talked to my doctor and she said it was safe to take zantac and me being a dummy i waited it out and threw up forever and finally gave in and took zantac and OMG what a lifesaver it like completly goes away! I seriously was so happy something finally worked! just call your doctor and ask their nurse on staff just to be sure, but you can buy it at any drug store or grocery store good luck and hope you feel better soon e"

Blinky Jill replied: "Most types of indigestion remedies help a little. I used Gaviscon or Mylanta liquid which although not completely fixing the problem certainly helped a lot. Night time sleeping in a sitting position with a Tri Pillow seems to help. Keep away from acidy foods and coffee."

Brionna C replied: "Tums, Rolaids, Maalox... If those don't help, go see your doctor. They can prescribe you Nexium or Prevacid if it's really really bad. try eating more frequent smaller meals too..."

cheerio monster replied: "I take Zantac 150- once in the morning and once at night. Then I take mylanta in between. ( everything gives me heartburn...even water...and acid reflux to the point I had been vomiting blood along with the stomach acid)The doctor prescribed reglan for me, but it makes me so drowsy and I need to keep the energy I have to chase after my 14 month old. The Zantac works okay though, at night I sleep as upright as possible and that helps too, you might try that. Good Luck!"

What can you do if You have Heartburn During Pregnancy? I have termenous heartburn during my pregnancy. I am 6.5 months pregnant and my heartburn is getting the best of me. Is there anything that anyone recommends that can ease my heartburn. I would be truly grateful if I can get some advice.

angi replied: "gaviscon. my sister used 2 drink bottles of it suring her pregnancy as she suffered with heartburn through out both of her pregancy's. u can get liquid or tablets and she said the liquid worked better than the tablets................ hope this helps xxxxx"

bonnie_clyde_4u replied: "I did the same way. I took tums"

ATarnaski replied: "There's not much you can do about it. The only thing that you can take is Tums, and it never really helped me when I was pregnant."

liz replied: "you can tack an antacid and see if it helps. if the antacid doesn't work ask yr doctor to see what else is available, and is of course safe."

leetepp replied: "drinking milk helps it soothes as it goes down you throat"

wonderwoman replied: "My heartburn was so bad during each of my 5 pregnancies that it almost made me sick but none of the over-the-counter remedies helped at all. The only thing I found to help was a cup of hot milk. Hope it works for you too. Good luck."

vickymum replied: "Get some charcoal tablets. Boots and Holland and Barret do them. I had the same thing when I was pregnant and they really helped."

helen p replied: "Gaviscon. It's not harmful to the baby. I glugged it whilst I was pregnant. It does relieve it in the first instance. Also try mint tea for digestion. Remember the baby is pressing against your digestive system and making it work a bit harder. I hope this works."

gemx24 replied: "you have to be careful cos some of them say not to take when pregnant but i drank bottles of gaviscon....tastes horrible but really did the trick also so try propping yourse;f up at night to give gravity a helping hand to keep the acid where it should be"

JAYNE C replied: "Gaviscon is safe in pregnancy also prop yourself up with plenty of pillows at night. I found that bread and coca cola really aggravated it with my kids"

Blondie replied: "Definately GAVISCON, I didnt like the aniseed one though. I used to just drink it out of the bottle. Even having a biscuit would give me heartburn. I even took a bottle in hospital with me when I went to have my son. Funny though, that once he was born, I never took another sip, and I used to 'sip' about 20 times a day, and has absolutley no effect on the baby. Good Luck."

"JOE KING" replied: "Hiya! Dee! My advise to you hon, is start taking yoghurt on a daily basis. 500mls in total! 250mls after breakfast, and 250mls before bedtime, there are lots of brands out there including flavoured. Your problem is too much acid entering your gut.Take it with a desert spoon but slowly. Avoid oranges, bacon, and cut down on bread and cakes. Hope you will find relief from discomfort and look forward to your forthcoming motherhood. > JK <"

frisbee45uk replied: "rennies or gaviscon should help. gud luck with the pregnancy.xx"

jungly ju replied: "All theses answers are good but to put my 2 penn'oth in try having some dry biscuits or similar to nibble on.......to give your stomach some thing to 'work on'"

How to get rid of heartburn during pregnancy? Hi there, I am 38 weeks and 3 days now, with my first. Every day i have get really bad heartburn. I was wondering what can i avoid and/or take to ease it.. I CANT TAKE IT NO MORE! (ps: ive been taking Rennie, and drinking flat lemonade, but its starting not to have effect anymore) Thank you.

Baby #1 due in October! replied: "Congrats! I'm 38 weeks and 3 days too, and oh yes - the heartburn is awful! I recommend Tums - they're good for you and the baby (full of calcium) and help with the heartburn. Obviously, nothing works miracles, but it helps! Best wishes!"

Alesha S replied: "I have always taken tums for my heartburn. It helps a lot. I also have drank milk to help calm the tummy. Other than that, there was nothing else I found that helped. Best of luck, you are almost done!"

nenalatina69 replied: "drink some milk and eat tums is helped me so far i hope it helps you."

bonafyde_cutie replied: "You can try drinking a glass of milk. I've heard that can ease it a bit."

b b replied: "I feel for you, I had same prob when I was preg. All solutions were only temporary unfortunately - milk and rennie did work, milk was the best for instant symptom relief. One old wives tale is that lots of heartburn means lots of hair. My gorgeous little boy had LOADS of dark hair when he was born. All the best :)"

deep sea replied: "u can try taking small meals like 6 or 7 meals a day u can try sprite with lime and mylanta it help me alot with the heartburn and zantac both medicines r good and try walking after taking every meal and avoid greasy and spicy food eat baked and boil veggie use yogurt and eat banana ...u,ll be fine try drinking 1 can of sprite mix with the glass of fatfree milk. hope u feel better good luck"

LB replied: "Try a liquid heartburn medication - like Mylanta. The tablet form of antacids don't seem to be as strong or as soothing. Your Dr can prescribe something to help - just ask."

P!NK replied: "I understand what your going trough. I'm 34 weeks and 3 days now and my heartburn is really bad, I get it all the time. What has helped me a lot are Tums and Milk. I'll chew on one or two tablets and when I run out I drink a glass of milk. It really helps. Hope this helps you and good luck."

usi_gal replied: "You actually can't get rid of heartburn during pregnancy unfortunately. I have really bad heartburn and I'm 36 1/2 weeks and have had this problem for several weeks now. I have to sleep practically sitting up to keep the heartburn and acid refulx from hurting too badly. My OB prescribed Protonix which is a 40 mg pill you take once daily in the morning. It obviously hasn't cured the heartburn but it sure has made it hurt a lot less. Also you should drink a lot of water and avoid anything spicy. Good luck!"

LiL mami replied: "milk did wonders for me!!"

What can I use to get rid of heartburn during pregnancy? TUMS doesn't work for me. What else can I use that is safe during pregnancy?

What works best to get rid of heartburn during pregnancy? I am nearly 14 weeks pregnant and have only started getting this, i haven't been sick throughout my pregnancy at all. But this is starting ti make me feel ill in the evenings.

mommyof2 replied: "it gets worse lol i have it ALL the time i go thru a bottle of tums every two weeks. lol"

due 01/27/10 replied: "Tums worked the best for me."

Jordan Ibraheim arriving~soon! replied: "I use Tums, and it works GREAT! I like the Tums Smoothie kind as it dissolves smoothly and leaves no chalky taste in your mouth. GL and I hope it gets better =o) Congrats!"

Kelsey replied: "Tums! They're safe and they work :)"

Kate replied: "Well I go through about 72 tums a week, a least. But, chewing gum actually helps because it makes your saliva glands secrete spit and idk why but it just helps. It actually keeps the heartburn away for as long as your chewing it. I do this when my heartburns not that bad just cause I feel like taking so many tums cant be good. even if its not ill advised..."

trista.perry replied: "I actually keep a bottle of Mylanta in the kitchen and at my bed side. It relieves it right away, as long as you let the medicine work and not drink anything right after. I used it with my first, it was actually recommended because I had acid reflux. It was and is my life saver! Im 34 weeks, and don't know what i would do without it!"

Swanky replied: "i drink milk, which helps a little bit. I try not to take too many tums, since they can add to the constipation situation. I have friends take prilosec and other over the counter heartburn remedies. Just makes sure you check with your dr. before taking anything. But tums definitely help me."

Lovin him replied: "Take 2-3 tums and drink a glass of milk. From what I hear its only going to get worse =] good luck and congrats on the baby"

nana replied: "i am in my third trimester and it is so annoying. try to see if you can use tums. I used zantac because my doctor said that it was okay and that helped a bit. don't overeat, don't lie down right after you eat."

What is the best fix for heartburn during pregnancy? I am now 7 weeks pregnant with my third and have NEVER experienced heartburn this severe. I don't see my OB until Thursday and I've been living with this unbearable pain for about 2 weeks now. It's a constant burning and NOTHING makes it better. I just tried Mylanta this morning and it's really not even taking the edge off. Please help! I'm practically bed-ridden because I'm a miserable mess. Any suggestions are GREATLY appreciated!

Dominique replied: "i found that drinking milk helps me a lot....if not then try taking tums."

KVYSMom replied: "I drank milk and chewed tums..but honestly nothing really took it completely away...just lessened it a bit. I found no matter what I ate I got heartburn anyway. Best of luck and I hope you feel better soon."

M Kerr RN L&D replied: "Zantac or Pepcid...both safe and pregnancy friendly! and a life saver!"

Nicola L replied: "I don't know how effective it is but try some mints."

Vicky replied: "I took rennies when I was pregnant. They help with heartburn and indegestion."

Vicky replied: "I had this too. Mylanta, in addition to being yucky, didn't seem to help. Rennies are good but you can't get them in the US - I've looked -- believe me! So I tried an Apple Cider vinegar recipe (all-natural; you'll find them online) but they didn't really help although I've heard good things from other people. But the winner was a ginger infusion which I also found online. Right now I've not made any for a few days, so not only does it make you feel better, but it seems to have stopped it. It's simple and you can make a day's supply fresh each morning: Thinly slice 2oz of peeled fresh ginger. Put it into 2 cups of water on the stove, add the juice of half a lemon (or lime) and 5 cloves (if you like that flavour) boil it and then simmer for about 5 minutes. Strain the drink out and add sugar, honey or maple syrup to taste. Good for morning sickness too and keeps well in the fridge. Cosy warm or add ice."

Leonard C replied: "Baking Soda and water."

mommyo'52b replied: "I have 4 kids and am preg with #5 and I have ritualistically carried Tums with me for every one of them. If you chew 2 at the onset of heartburn things should be allright immediately. If your heartburn is very bad and it is causing you to be sick or making it hard to sleep, then talk to your OB/Gyn about maybe something stronger. I was on Protonix with my fourth and that was a life saver if I remembered to take it every day."

Pumpkin replied: "This might help..... a little bit a baking soda in a cup of warm water, It instanly stops the acid build up. It's different sometimes a bit more baking soda or room temperature water. Variety... hope it helps."

BrownEydGrrl replied: "The two best things I think they've ever invented for heartburn: chewable Gaviscon tablets, and Ranitidine (Zantac 150). I had heartburn so bad with my last 2 that it used to make me feel like I was going to be sick (and occasionally did). As soon as I started using those 2 things, I was okay. Zantac is good for prevention or for longer-lasting relief, while the Gaviscon works quickly. It seems stronger than Mylanta or Tums, and it worked much better for me. I took 3 tablets with a small glass of water, and that did the trick. My doctor said it was fine to use both at once, since they're two different types of medication. If you're still not sure, check with yours first. Also, I just used the Walmart Equate brand. It worked just fine and saved a few dollars. I hope that helps!"

ashley j replied: "drink lots of water, eat smaller, blander, more frequent meals instead of 3 big meals a day. milk does help a little bit, but not for long and not so much. when you lay down stuff some pillows under you so you are not laying flat. laying at an incline also helps. you can have tums, too. it sounds like acid reflux, though and that is a bit more serious than just heartburn. at your next doctor's appointment ask him/her about your options. my doctor put me on nexium and it's a life-saver! i don't have any heartburn at all! best of luck to you!"

Chica replied: "I am 10 weeks pregnant and have massive all-day morning sickness and heartburn. I throw up at least 4 times a day and I just feel like I breathe fire. BUT, there is HOPE! I now take ZANTAC! I am able to eat small meals several times a day AND keep them down! :o) And, my heartburn is pretty much gone too. I still feel nausea during the day, but pregnancy is so much better now. I absolutely love Zantac and would recommend it to anyone. Congrats on your 3rd pregnancy!"
