About Zoloft Side Effects Anxiety in Answers
Can you have Zoloft withdrawal after one day? Or is that the Zoloft side effects? I felt bad anxiety tonight, a couple hours after the time I took first dose last night. Is this withdrawal or a side effect? I wanted to take it in the morning, when I can handle any anxiety side effects better [night=scary] Thanks! To clarify, I know people say it takes awhile to get in your system, but I can tell the anxiety is related to the drug, as I have drugged feeling and sweat feeling I normally don't.

Kelly replied: "Withdrawal is when you take a medicine for a long time, and then stop, and your body freaks out cuz the medicine is gone. If you've only taken it once, it's definitely not withdrawals. It's more likely a side effect. Most side effects go away after a week or so. You might double check with your dr, but usually you can take anti-depressants at night or in the morning, whichever works best for you."

quinntheeskimo37 replied: "That is definitely not withdrawals. Way, way too soon for that. I take Luvox and Wellbutrin for OCD and anxiety and at first when I took them they actually did make me more anxious. The same effect happened when I raised or lowered my dose. It went away after about a week and after a month of using the meds I felt absolutely great. Better than I ever have in my life. It really takes about a month or so to know how you will feel on a given med. If you have a concern I would contact your doctor and discuss with your concerns with the doctor. This is something that really cannot be solved here on the internet. I will say that I urge you to give the meds a chance, they do work and have relieved the symptoms for many people... but can be a little funky at first. The funkiness will usually subside with time."

Paul A replied: "After only one day you won't experience any withdrawals from Zoloft. I would guess you might be experiencing "break-in" side effects. Some people get them, and some don't. They don't last very long, maybe a couple weeks or so. I had very vivid dreams for a while, and they eventually went away. I found (by experimenting) the best time for me to take my Lexapro (an SSRI, like Zoloft) is with dinner. I sleep the best at night, and I'm more awake the next day."

cutetrio2002 replied: "The first week to two weeks you are going to have that feeling but it does go away. I took mine right before I went to bed so I was sleeping for the worst of the woozies (my name for that weird feeling)! I felt very sleepy but jittery at the same time and also had the anxiety you described the first few days after I started taking it. I kept thinking this is awful, I'm supposed to feel better! I actually started out with effexor then switched to zoloft. You wouldn't experience any withdrawal after just one dose. Consider toughing it out because you really do feel better after the first few days."

Are the side effects of zoloft better than dealing with terrible anxiety? My dr wants me to start taking Zoloft... I can't decide if these side effects are going to be worse than my anxiety. Don't get me wrong I can't live with this terrible anxiety, racing thoughts, constantly being scared... But the side effects scare the crap out of me!

Shan Bokhari replied: "Not everyone experiences these horrific side effects and not everyone experiences them to the same degree. It's the case with all antidepressants that you weigh the side effects against the benefits and if the benefits exceed the side effects its the right medicine for you, especially if side effects are limited, most side effects disappear within the first couple of weeks, and if they don't - then you just change medicines, these side effects, at least the common ones, are uncomfortable, but rarely rarely dangerous and you will know quite soon if not immediately after taking it whether you have any adverse or abnormal reactions to it - and so as soon as you stop the drug, they go away - there are some horror stories associated with antidepressants, I've been rarely unfortunate to live some of them, and I can understand your fears, but trust me - those are rare cases and if they work, they aren't all that bad. Also, anxiety is easily treated with non-chemical ways such as therapy, so your doctor shouldn't just be slapping you with drugs, you should really look into a suitable therapy - ask your doctor about that and they will refer you - medicine is a great, short-term, immediate solution but isn't meant to be treated as a long-term one if it can be helped - and therapy offers more long-term results, where 'you' overcome your anxiety or the underlying cause."

karen replied: "I'm taking Celexa for my panic attacks and i had side effects for 4 weeks. Sweating, heart racing, drowsy and confused. Believe me it was hard at first but it's worth it i feel very calm now and i haven't any anxiety (panic attacks) in 2 months"

Jeff replied: "Don't take these meds they too can cause anxiety. Try exercise. That is your best bet. I guarantee exercise at least 4 times a week will cure your anxiety. Medication should be your last resort. Unless you are lazy. Like most people. Then you can just go to your drug dealer.... I mean doctor."

gracie replied: "Not everyone gets side effects and if they are too bad for you to handle you can try a different one. I tried several different kinds because of the side effects so I knew I was somebody who was going to have them no matter which med. I took. So I finally made myself stay with the paxil. At the time I thought it wasn't going to be worth it but now I can say it was. My side effects got worse before they got better so don't get discouraged from that. It took me about 3 weeks to get thru them but they were better towards the end. I don't read the information they give me anymore for most drugs because it gets me to think I am going to have them all. I just go by how I feel and if I can handle it. They have to list all side effects even if only one person out of the whole group got it. I think I focused too much on the side effects when I first tried them and that made it worse. BUT remember not everyone gets side effects. I know people who are one them and they had no side effects. I also know people wqho got side effects from one med. and when they switched they got no side effects. Just work with your dr. Plus it takes awhile for the meds. to build up in your system so you may think they aren't working but you have to give them time."

*B&E'SMom* replied: "I am on Zoloft, and my Therapist is having to wean me off of it cuse its causeing me to have headaches, mood swingsweight gain which leads to worse depression, lack of sexual interests, and a few other things going on which im not sure if its accociated but its enough. If your not sure about Zoloft just tell your Dr. that you've heard to many things about zoloft and could she/he recommend something else.I have heard Paxil is a good one,i'm going to mention it to my Therapist next week."

viviavegas replied: "I am on zoloft right now and have been on it fo almost 3 weeks. I took cymbalta which was a complete nightmare! Celex worked for awhile and Lexapro for a couple months. Doctors do not know what to really give you. You need to let them know what you feel. You know when something is not right. With cymbalta I had panic attacks every morning, and would do nothing but cry. My husband would come home and I would be in the closet just crying. I also take xanax for a quick fix when the feeling is coming on. Sometimes for a longer effect I take a valium. I tried to get off all of them. But the anxiety and panic attacks and the thoughts are incredibly over whelming, and the feeling is the worse. I think That is worse. You just give it a try, if you feel really bad call him and go off it and try something else. Excercise, especially walking or reading can help. It takes alot but it can be done. I am still working on it. Cognitive therapy can help as well. good luck. You will find what works for you, it just takes time. Also don't think of tomorrow, just think for today. Thinking to much and to far ahead makes you more anxious. Day by Day. Or hour by hour."

Eric S replied: "no, the side effects of the drug are not worth the results. Your anxiety will decline, but you will be 'weird' for a while, spend tons of money on it, and reap the side effects, such as weight gain, sleeplessness, constipation, headaches, stomach problems etc... trust me, I dealt with it first hand, look into alternative natural methods instead of drugs"

Question about Zoloft for anxiety and side effects? I’m 20 & have been dealing with anxiety for 6 months. I’ve been having panic attacks, fear of dying & scared that something is wrong with my body. I get physical symptoms but I know nothing is wrong. I feel like I’m also becoming afraid to do things because I fear something happening. I’ve been to counseling & everyone suggested I go on antidepressents but I’m very against it. I’ve never liked medication & I’m afraid it’s going to give me bad sideeffects. But a few days ago, I went in & asked for the medication & they gave me Zoloft. I haven’t been able to take it yet. I’m terrified of what it could to to me, though I know it’s probably due to anxiety in part. I’ve heard so many bad things about how it kills your sex drive, gives you thoughts of suicide, also has horrible withdrawl & I only want to be on it for six months. I know I’m starting out on the lowest dose & only doing it for a bit but I still don’t want my sex life ruined or the possible repercusions of going off of it. Help?

Jake J replied: "I took it for 2 years and i was fine. I don't think you have anything to worry about. If you want to talk more email me."

My Moment replied: "i went through this when i was 18 and i have battled anxiety on and off for years. YES IT SUX BAD and totally interferes with your life( I'm 26 ) The more you learn about yourself and types of anxiety disorders and deal with what causes these phases of anxiety in your life , the better off you will be. Before you take meds, i recommend Lucinda Basettes books on dealing with anxiety. I have never taken meds for anxiety. I have come to terms with being a high strung anxious person ...........I guess just learn as much as you can about it first before you medicate yourself. Just know its okay to be who you are and get in control of your fears/anxiety ............................theres alot of pressure out there "to be normal" which is " being medicated" is most instances ...........................acceptance is a huge factor .....good luck ."

Takin Zoloft and Xanax, Anxiety or Side Effects? I started taking zoloft[25mg] and xanax[.5mg] 4 days ago. I take them before going to sleep, and I get terrible nausea, hot flashes, fast heartbeat, feels like i cant breath, and i get really dizzy and weak.I went to the doc and he did a blood test and urine test, and He says that I'm fine, just anxiety and depression. Im losing weight really fast because I'm not eating or sleeping. I feel like I'm killing myself but I can't stop worrying. I don't know what to do anymore, should I stop taking the meds? By the way I'm 18, Female, Weight 130 [Lost 5 pounds in 2 weeks!] 5'3

Meh replied: "Since you just started taking them they shouldnt have much an affect on you just yet, so I would suggest talking to your Doctor to see if they think you should continue. If you do it may take about a month for the meds to get regulated in your body. This is when they will actually provide their purpose of relieving depression & anxiety. I'm currently on Effexor (150mg) & Xanax (.5mg) The Xanax has a tiresome affect on me so usually when I feel anxious I take half a pill. The Effexor seems to be doing it's job since I am feeling much better than before taking it. Just a suggestion in case you want to quit the Zoloft."

Abhishek B replied: "Don't eat any medicines just try only self help method to free from ocd and tools for ocd, you can get some info here also"

Has anyone tried zoloft while breastfeeding to relieve anxiety? Has it worked? Any side effects for baby? I have an appointment with a psychiatrist tomorrow and I know that he may recommend zoloft for the treatment of my anxiety because it is supposedly the safest to use while breastfeeding. I am still Anxious about it because I dont want to harm my baby in any way. Does anyone have experience with this?

ketchupklf replied: "I've taken Zoloft while breastfeeding three of my children and even taken it through two pregnancies. All the children have been *fine*... I've never noticed a single side effect in them. ETA: Like other meds... some women it does wonders for and others need to try different meds. For me... it has done the job very well. :) I have never heard *anything* about Zoloft being linked to homocides. Hope that helps!"

jonahs mom replied: "i took it for a few weeks but it made me feel sick. it didn't seem to have any effect on my son. i figured out that my emotional issues were due to a hormonal imbalance caused by my mirena IUD so i'd certainly reccommend making sure that you really need zoloft & your problems aren't caused by something else. i heard a lot of horror stories about zoloft on the radio after i quit taking it (women killing their families & themselves) ggod luck. i hope you feel better : )"

Samantha replied: "I am currently taking Zoloft and have been since my baby was a week old. He'll be ten weeks old on Tuesday, and I haven't noticed any ill effects for him. They told me it might make him a little irritable, but I didn't see any change. As for myself, I'd have come unglued without it. I cried all day every day for the first week until I got on it. I mean, I knew baby blues would be bad, but this was beyond that. The doctor and pharmacist both told me that the best thing to do however, was to take it immediately after I nursed so that it would have that much longer to break down in my system before I nursed again."

Are these normal side effects of zoloft? I began taking zoloft and trazodone for anxiety and depression a week ago and have been experiencing side effects which include: fatigue, shakiness, feeling "spaced out" and feelings of euphoria... I started on 25mg and just began taking 50mg today. Can anyone tell me if these are normal initial side effects??

ChaoticI replied: "Those could be things that will calm after taking them for a short time, but they could also last the entire time you're on the drug. You should call your doctor to tell him/her about these and ask what they want you to do. If it's unbearable they'll probably ask you to give it a couple of days longer and then stop taking it if it's not better."

Syd replied: "Yeah, normal. They could go away as your body gets used to it, but if they havent subsided within a month talk to your doc about it."

Zoloft side effects? ? Has anyone taken Zoloft and what were your side effects, if any? I'm supposed to take it for anxiety and depression, but the side effects I'm hearing of are REALLY scaring me. Can you tell me your experiences? Thank you. real mature zoltan.

Zoltan replied: "my arm fell off DONT DO IT"

SimoneyB replied: "Side effects can differ from person to person. And some of the extreme ones are quite rare, of course. It's just a case of trial and error. I'm on Zoloft at the moment and the most obvious side effect I'm encountering is a lack of interest in sex."

blondebabyxoxo replied: "Zoloft like any other medicine has side effects. The common side effects are: Anxiety; constipation; decreased sexual desire or ability; diarrhea; dizziness; drowsiness; dry mouth; increased sweating; loss of appetite; nausea; nervousness; stomach upset; tiredness; trouble sleeping; vomiting; weight loss. Zoloft is a really great medicine and has great results. If you are feeling any of these common side effects talk to your doctor and they will advise you on what to do."

Precious Pisces replied: "Well side effects vary depending on the person. My ex was on zoloft for about a year for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. I know he complained that he had cotton mouth, massive headaches, insomnia, and gained weight like crazy (he went from 175lbs to 250 lbs in one year). But it sure as hell did not effect his sex drive, which was always insanely high. As far as myself goes, I'm on Wellbutrin XL 300MG for seasonal depression."

Zoloft Sexual Side Effects? Good evening, my husband was recently prescribed zoloft for his anxiety and depression. One of the side effects is sexual side effects. does anyone know what specifically those side effects are? thanks in advance!

evee replied: "i was on zoloft too for over a year. From what i remember the sexual side effects were decreased sexual drive for both men and woman and an erection that wont go away (for men)"

thrill88 replied: "Hello. The side effects can be decrease in libido. If you notice this see if your hubby can try Wellbutrin. Less side effects with that."

knitsafghans replied: "Lowered libido is the primary manifestation."

wolfeblayde replied: "Lack of sex drive is usually the most common side effect. I'm not sure if that includes erectile disfunction, but in women, Zoloft can cause a serious lack of interest in sex."

Ivy replied: "Hello, One can experience decrease in libido, may take him longer to achieve orgasm, retrograde ejacuation, and some other side sexual side effects. He should ask his doctor about this if it becomes an issue."

darklydrawl replied: "It is well documented that Zoloft can suppress sexual desire in both men and women."

Clamshell 19 replied: "Those side effects don't bother everyone. Use caution in stopping or changing any medications. It's best to check with your doctor. If he just started this new medication, give it some time and see if he has any side effects . Many do not."

Violet Pearl replied: "Typical Side Effects: headache, nausea, dry mouth, sweating, sleepiness or insomnia, and diarrhea or constipation, weight gain, loss of libido. Most everything but the weight gain and loss of libido usually goes away within a couple of weeks. Unlike most antidepressants, mixing booze and Zoloft will get you drunker"

Break Me replied: "I've been on Zoloft for over 6 months now. My sex drive disappeared when the Zoloft kicked in until very recently. I don't know if it comes back for everyone."

fayebelater replied: "Well, I can tell you from experience what the side effects for women are. Decreased libido, decreased ability to climax from intercourse, and literal impotence. Basically, no matter how great everything is, it just doesn't do anything for you. I've had some relief by adding a second drug with fewer sexual side effects. Good luck! It's a tough situation for both involved."

How long until Zoloft side effects go away? My doctor prescribed Zoloft to treat my anxiety. I have been on 25 mg for about a week now. I am also 4 months pregnant. I've been taking it at night before I got to bed. The first time I took it, I felt terrible all night with flu like symptoms, and was very nauseous. The feeling continued into the rest of the following day. The doses I have taken after that have not made me feel as bad, but I am waking up every morning still feeling very nauseous and having diarrhea (and no, the nausea is not from morning sickness, I was quite over my morning sickness, and didn't start feeling nauseous again until I started the Zoloft). I want to move up to the 50 mg dose, but am afraid of how it will make me feel! My question is, do these side effects ever go away?? How long until they do? I haven't noticed any improvement since the second dose I took. I don't see my doctor until next week. The benefits of meds haven't kicked in yet, either, so this is all rather frustrating.

Soapflake replied: "They usually start to fade and disappear in a couple weeks, hang in there. It might take a little while before you see improvement, if you haven't seen a bit in a month or so, I would go back to the doc."

Beautiful replied: "I have taken Zoloft before and it takes about 2-3 weeks before you notice any change. Is it safe to take while you are pregnant? I wouldn't raise your dose until after your baby is born. Best wishes."

a24kauguy replied: "When i was taking Zoloft, some of the symptoms went away after the first week or two and others remained for a much longer time. I noticed a feeling of nausea but it went away after a few days. I also learned that if I ate something (like a small container of yogurt or some crackers) right before taking it, the nausea was not as bad. I was bumped up to 50mg after only a couple of weeks but there were other side effects that never really went away. Those got bad enough that my Dr. took me off Zoloft and prescribed a different SSRI. Like other SSRIs, Zoloft can affect everybody that takes it in different ways. It's important to pay close attention to how you feel and let your doctor know when you see her/him next week."
