Has anyone taken flagyl during pregnancy? I have been prescribed flagyl for a infection, and i am 28 weeks pregnant. I have read some disturbing things about it though. Has anyone else taken this while pregnant? Plus i have an eye infection, can i use bausch & lomb muro 128?

Magan replied: "I am currently 13 wks pregnant and im on flagyl too..My doc wanted to wait to put me on it till i was 3 months but I havent had any side effects from taking the meds and am not worried about it bcuz if the benefits of taking it didnt out weigh the risks the doc would not have put me on it..and about the eye ointment all the web says about it is to ask a doctor before taking it.."

METRONIDAZOLE (flagyl) during pregnancy? Im 21 weeks pregnant and had a papsmear done about 4 or 5 weeks ago. I just recieved a call from my nurse/midwife yesterday telling me they had found some bacteria and asking me if they had given me medication to treat it. They hadn't. So, she told me she would put the call in for the prescription and I could pick it up anytime. While I was EXTREMELY aggrivated that it had taken them that long to let me know this, she didn't make it seem like it was anything too serious and I know how common bacterial problems can be during pregnancy. So, I wasn't too worried, until I picked up my prescription today. Im a bit of a worry wart so once I knew the name of the medication (METRONIDAZOLE, FLAGYL) I decided to look it up online. Seeing I don't know exactly what kind of infection I have Im concerned after reading all the things its used to treat. And the fact that its a controversial drug pregnancy. Does anyone have any experience with this medication during pregnancy?

christenshannon replied: "i had to take flagy for BV( Bacterial Vaginosis) it's not a std or anything it's just an overgrowth of bacteria in the vagina, it's like a yeast infection but with an overgrowth of the good bacteria in the vagina you take the Flagyl for 7 days 2 time a day with no sex until after you finish the medicine and then use a condom 7 days after you finsh the medicine they say no sex because the bacteria can be on the head of a man's penis a warning to you though that is the nastiest medicine you will ever taste it won't harm the baby because the doctor wouldn't have prescribed it for you"

chapcat79701 replied: "I've never used it while I was prengant and I wouldn't use it if I had any douts. I know that Metronidazole is used for dogs for diarrhea but I've never heard about it in people"

Has anyone ever taken ABT Flagyl during the first trimester of pregnancy to treat bacterial vaginosis? My perinatologist prescribed it for 7 days which was through my 5th week of pregnancy. I am 6wks. now and I am finding conflicting info. about the medication.

M0MMi. replied: "They may have different stuff to use but I just got over BV my doctor gave me Metronidazole gel to do for 5 nights and it helped it & im fine."

Tambrey T replied: "There is a natural very quick and very effective way to cure bv. I'm not a doctor but I'm almost positive it is safe to do this while pregnant especially so early on. You can either apply yogurt around the affected area to relieve symptoms or to treat the infection you can soak a tampon in plain yogurt and insert that into the vagina. It works like a charm... very effective with immediate results. It MUST BE PLAIN yogurt. Also eat lots of yogurt with probiotics it helps to cure bv even quicker."

flagyl gel during pregnancy? has anyone used metronidazole gel during pregnancy? i'm 27 weeks and my ob prescribed it, but i'm hesitant to use it because of the warning label.

Amy replied: "ask a pharmacist. pharmacists are the medication experts, not the doctors. the pharmacist will be able to look up exactly what the recommendations are in pregnancy and in your situation. use a small pharmacy, not like a walmart or anything."

Responsible for My Actions replied: "Well if your OB prescribed it, I would think it to be safe."

some chick replied: "I'm assuming he prescribed it for BV? He wouldn't have prescribed it if he didn't feel it was safe -- and BV is associated with premature birth."

Rebecca C replied: "Your OB would not have prescribed it if it was not necessary... think about what the infection you have could do to the baby and your pregnancy if you don't use it. The effects of infection could be as small as premature labor to as bad as the infection spreading to the baby and causing problems. Doctors weigh the pros and cons to the meds before prescribing. In most cases the infection is worse than the treatment, by far. I don't remember if one of the things I used while pregnant was that particular one, but I was on both oral antibiotics and vaginal creams thru most of my 1st pregnancy because of recurrent infections. My baby was and still is just fine - she's 5 now. If you are worried, talk with your doctor, but it can have serious consequences if you do not treat vaginal and any other sort of infections ASAP while pregnant!"

Kristyn C replied: "yes, i had a pap that said that i had baterial vaginos. They prescribed it to me at 10 weeks. I KNOW I TOTALLY FREAKED WHEN I READ THE LABEL AND I WAS 2 DAYS INTO THE MEDICINE. But i called a pharmacist and they explained it is a topical gel and completely safe during pregnancy because it is hardly absorbed. But now the infection is gone and i feel a lot better!!!! Dont worry it is completely safe and wont harm your baby."

Is 500mg Flagyl and also is Keflex safe to use during pregnancy? The ER doc prescribed them to my wife today. She has a couple of infections. She is 29 weeks pregnant. Is a 500mg dose of Flagyl safe to take twice a day? Is it is safe to use keflex at the same time?

pinkymachiney replied: "I'm not sure myself but I find it really helpful, with questions like these, to call a pharmacist. Any pharmacy and many grocery stores have pharmacies and if you call and ask for the pharmacist (you don't want an assistant) they will be able to give you the answers you need. If you don't get a good one the first time, try a different pharmacy. This is their area of specialty and I've found them really good. Good luck!"

sweetrelease82 replied: "Hmmm.... I'm not sure about how they work together, but here are two sites about the drugs themselves."

Due 09/10/09 ! :) replied: "Keflex is fine and so is Flagyl. I have took them both. Not at the same time though but as a doctor perscribed them im sure they wouldnt do so if it wasnt safe. call your ob if youre scared"

flagyl pregnancy skin problems for baby? ? can taking flagyl during pregnancy cause skin problems tor the baby?

Newly Wed!! replied: "I'd would contact your doctor."

Trichomoniasis during pregnancy im scared? I went for a check up cuz i found out im 6 weeks pregnant and they said that i have Trichomoniasis and they gave me some medacine called Metronidazole (flagyl) 500 mg i have to take it twice a day for 7 days... will this hurt the baby ? please help me

Take Your Love and Hit the Road replied: "They wouldn't give it to you if it would hurt the baby."

vicky replied: "no you are fine and the baby is fine. NOT taking your medicine will hurt your baby. you dont want your baby to catch the STD on the way out. and dont worry its one of the low man on totum pole STDS not that you would want ANY of them but its nothing to fret over."

Chula replied: "No it will not hurt the baby and don't be scared : ) your hormones is all confused right now so having this is quite normal while pregnant, seeing that your body is going through so much changes. Just make sure you continue to take it for the 7 days and don't stop using it because you feel better, use it for the full 7."

Blessed21 replied: "the dr shouldnt give u anything that will hurt the baby. i am sure it will be fine."

Tamara replied: "During the first 3 months of pregnancy many doctors feel that you shouldn't take metronidazole (flagyl) because it may hurt the baby. However, some doctors feel that metronidazole can be given safely after the end of the first trimester. Do some research on it if you dont feel comfortable......but i wouldnt worry....they only prescribed it for you so that it wont harm the baby....cuz having that can cause a complicated birth and has effects on the baby!!! Plus Trichomoniasis can cause babies to be born early or at a low birth weight (less than five pounds). Dont worry though you will be fine....goodluck!!! <3"

antibiotics during pregnancy.? Hello everyone! I was just curious if anyone else has taken different antibiotics throughout their pregnancy? I started off taking diflucan for 7 days as the obgyn thought i had a yeast infection but it turned out i had BV so he gave me flagyl a week later and stopped the diflucan. Now that I'm towards the end of my pregnancy and spoken to someone who thinks antibiotics causes birth defects it has me wondering the chances. I took diflucan for 7 days at 100 mg. and medicines several times for bladder infections for 7 days. I have already had my 18 week scan and one at 22 weeks which all was normal but I wasn't sure if all defects are shown through ultrasound. Has anyone else taken any of these medicines in their pregnancies? when i took the flagyl and diflucan i was between 10-13 weeks pregnant..i figure if the doctor gave it to me it couldn't be bad but i was just curious if anyone else had taken it and everything was okay?

Precious replied: "I had an infection in my foot with my 1st pregnancy and had to take antibiotics. My daughter had no side effects. They only prescribe you medications which are safe to take while pregnant. Don't worry!"

babyandme replied: "yes i took 2 boxes of antibiotics at different times as long as ur more than 3 months prego"

lady d replied: "i have taken antibiotic a couple of times threw this pregnancy and also meds for a yeast infection too. the dr's know what to prescribe to women when they are pregnant. i even talked to the pharmacy because i was so worried about it , the pharm tech told me that they have different levels of medications and they dont like to see a woman take a level 3 medication. 1's and 2's are ok and 3's can be ok too but they like to have you take the 1's and 2's because they are lower and less harmful to mother or child. good luck, and im sure your ob would give it to you if he didnt think you would be ok with it."

Nichola-Jane replied: "i had quite a few, co amoxyclav, flucloxacilin and metroniadazole - the ones i remember - for urine infections, kidney infections, yeast infections, bacterial vaginosis if they werent safe they wouldnt prescribe them. my daughter was fine when she was born, im sure you and your baby will be just fine xxx"

Drew R replied: "I would think that your Obgyn would know this more then somebody who hasn't gone to med school. My wife has taken antibiotics through a few of her pregnancies. Her doctor is careful and there are different medications he advises against for sure. Your best bet is to ask both your primary care physician and your Obgyn about any questions or concerns that you may have."

snowlight345 replied: "Different antibiotics are safe a different times during pregnancy. For example,Flagyl is safe to take in your 12th week but not in your 6th week.No medicine is ever 100% percent safe but your Doctor will always prescribe something that has been shown to have the least amount of risks.I had to take many antibiotics in my last pregnancy for urinary tract infections, gum infection,as well as BV and my daughter is two now and she is fine.Don't worry-there is actually more of a risk to your baby if you don't take antibiotics because infection and fever can cause miscarriage and still birth as well as birth defects.Everything will be fine just make sure you take your medicine."

♥ sexy-pig ♥ replied: "please try not to worry if the doctor was concerned about the drugs he prescribed you he/she would have to be honest with you and let you know if there were any risks to your baby .. Its very common for pregnant women especially in the first stage of pregnancy to develop infections down below , theres so much going on ! I was on anti biotics with my first 2 pregnancies early on and my last pregnancy i was on 3 at the same time as i had pneumonia and was hospitalised , my baby was and still is perfect , she`s 5 now , i went to 38 weeks with her .. Don`t worry , its easier said than done i know but try to relax and enjoy your last stage of pregnancy and rest up as much as poss before this wonderful tiny person arrives .. Congratulations and very best of luck to you xx EDIT- As mentioned above me , i told my doctor i wasn`t happy to take antibiotics as i was concerned about my growing baby and i was told the same as the person above , my doctor said the infection if left untreated would cause more damage to the baby than the tablets . The infection could have spread into the womb etc etc , it doesn`t bear thinking about does it .. .Relax , your baby is safe . Take Care x"

Flagyl first trimester? has anyone out there ever taken flagyl during the first trimester? If so I was curious if everything turned out okay during the pregnancy? I took it at 9 weeks pregnant (my obgyn prescribed it to me) and now my new OBGYN is saying it isn't safe during the first trimester. 24 weeks pregnant with baby girl. Fetal ultrasounds at 18 and 22 weeks looked normal but I know you can't always tell.

susanlpn2004 replied: "Almost all drugs have warnings about not taking while pregnant. It is to keep them out of trouble if something happens as they can say "well, there was a warning". Now. Chances are very low that it will have any effects on your baby. Sometimes the risks outweigh the risks of not taking it... as in the infection could have caused more harm to the fetus than the medicine would. here is a couple of links that may give more info and comfort...,,midwife_3p7z,00.html"

Samantha replied: "i think that u should take nothin while preggers, with everything there is a small risk. and thats a risk 99% of people are not willing to take.. get a 3rd opinion or do some googling.... put ur mind at ease"

waiting for baby replied: "flagyl is the best antibiotic to give to a pregnant woman I don't why he saying that and also since he see that your baby has no problem I had to take it because I was tested + for strep b in Nov & I was about 33 weeks I was giving the vaginal supporsutory for 10 days and all is clear but I am also giving antibiotic to take the minute I start labor if I have not reachthe hospital yet to make sure that I have not past anything to the baby eventhough my test show that all is clear don't sweat the only thing I think that could happen in the 1st trimester was for you to miscarried but you did not I would go to the net and read on flagyl Good luck"
