Latex Allergy Symptoms Facts in Answers
Symptoms of the latex allergy? No, not condoms. I mean latex in general. What is a brief description of the symptoms? And yes, of course I'm going to the doctor to be tested for the latex allergy. I was just wondering if I have any of the common symptoms, other than severe itch, hives, watery eyes, runny nose, and tight throat. I recently had surgery and where they applied a latex adhesive is where the problem is! Or was I allergic to the steri-strips?

pj0685 replied: "Latex allergy can be mild or severe, with symptoms such as: * Itchy, red, watery eyes * Sneezing or runny nose * Coughing * Rash or hives * Chest tightness * Shortness of breath Some people who wear latex gloves get bumps, sores, cracks or red, raised areas on their hands. These symptoms usually appear 12 to 36 hours after contact with latex. Changing to non-latex gloves, using glove liners, and paying more attention to hand care can help relieve these symptoms. A person who is highly allergic to latex can also have a life-threatening allergic reaction, called anaphylactic shock. Symptoms include: * Difficulty breathing * Dizziness * Confusion * Wheezing * Nausea * Vomiting * Rapid or weak pulse * Loss of consciousness Someone having an anaphylactic reaction needs immediate medical attention."

Tima replied: "You should use clarinex, it is the best about it you can get information from here"

Jareth's Trousers replied: "Here are a couple of sites that describe the different symptoms of an allergy. And if you are allergic to latex in general, you will be allergic to latex condoms."

zapata replied: "chemical allergies and the many problems you describe are often ignored, unjustly,by mainstream doc,if they do not produce anaphylactic, life threatening symptom,,,,chems used on adhesive strips could be your problem"

Ellie replied: "A few of the symptoms of the latex allergy...is obviously itchyness, irritation, discompfert of the skin, rash, hives, wheezing, sneezing...( the symptoms are rather similar to sesonnal allergys) all in all depending of the reaction of certain people."

John & ADB M replied: "The answers above pretty much say it all. If you are allergic (severally) make sure your Doctor gives you a Rx for an EppiPen. ADB"

dancing_smurf replied: "I am have a latex allergy. My symptoms depend on what is used in conjunction with the latex and where I come into contact with it. If it is contact without powder being used, away from my face, and it is an incidental contact my symptoms include: redness and itching. However if it is a prolonged exposure my skin will breakdown to the point where I begin bleeding at the point of contact with latex. Now, if the contact is by my face my eyes will water, I will get stuffy sinuses too and tight throat in addition to my skin breaking down. If the product contain powder too my symptoms are compounded to the point where I cannot breathe if the exposure is prolonged due to shortness of breath and my throat swelling shut. Reading your positing it is possible that you might be allergic to latex. Alternatively you could be allergic to the adhesive in the steri-strip or one of the ingredients used in the steri-strip. Best advice is to speak with your doctor."

ora r replied: "Each person can react differently to an allergy to natural rubber latex. Chemical in Adhesives are made with the same chemical accelerants used to make natural rubber latex and synthetic manmade latex and are trouble for some. Sometimes it's hard to tell if the latex or the chemicals are the issue. My first symptoms were trouble with band aids, a rash - and other times almost like I had been burned where the band aid touched my skin. I am now disabled due to this allergy and my lack of knowledge in first dealing with it. No one told me airborne latex proteins from gloves or balloons could make me hypersensitive, and lead to more serious respiratory symptoms quickly. Clothing with spandex and elastics, like bicycle shorts made me itch. Spandex normally has natural rubber latex in it. There are foods that are so closely related to latex your body thinks it's eating latex; banana, kiwi, avocado, chestnuts, tomato & potato are the common ones, but the list is much bigger. Sometimes having an allergy to one of these cross reactive foods will exacerbate into a latex allergy. The only treatment is to avoid all forms of natural rubber latex. You may be in the beginning stages of the allergy, mine didn't manifest for a few years to full blown symptoms that became obvious. Even now with my serious reactions the tests all say I'm negative. Diagnosis is made by taking a detailed medical history, not just relying on tests that aren't always accurate. This is a serious allergy, it is worth your time to learn about it, and make sure you practice avoidance of all latex until you know for sure one way or the other if you do indeed have it."

Are these symptoms of a latex allergy in my vagina? I just went to the OBGYN to get checked out for some other problem (Too long of a story, so I won't mention it) and one of the tests she did involved her sticking her finger in there, and of course, she was wearing latex gloves. The day after the appointment, I started having some discharge (With a metallic smell, ew), and I also have a rash around my vagina, and sometimes it "itches" (It doesn't exactly itch, it sorta feels tingly, and rubbing down there, NOT SCRATCHING, seems to make it stop for a while) I also hurt like right above my clit. I can't really tell what's wrong with it since I'm afraid of hurting myself, but if I touch it with something, it hurts as if I were poking at a papercut or something. (Sorry, only example I can think of at the moment since I have a papercut, lol.) It seems kind of suspicious that it started after my appointment, so I thought I'd ask. I didn't masturbate after the appointment or anything, and I've never had sex. So...Yes? No? I have not yet called my OBGYN about it because I've been busy and I just don't like her attitude. :\

BaBy GiRL replied: "well i have a latex allergy and nothing like that happend to me...my hole burned like crazy and i got a rash around it..."

Ashly replied: "I don't think its a Latex allergy."

LAZMUM replied: "Yes it sound very much like it could be or you could have thrush see your DR.for diagnoses & treatment a.s.a.p."

adifferentpath replied: "Hi I have a latex allergy, and thats what it felt like when my husband and I used to use condoms. I would suggest having your OB not use those gloves anymore. Also, If you dont like your OBGYNs attitude, I would suggest getting another. You depend on her/him for a lot of different things. Get an OBGYN you are comfortable with!"

Jina S replied: "It sounds like the gloves might not have been clean... Were they powered? Do you masturbate frequently? Have you since the appointment? You said that rubbing helped... Have you ever used anything latex there - dildo, playing with a condom, other latex gloves? Get some latex gloves, non-powered, and put them on and sleep with them. If you have a latex allergy, it will show on your hands... If that has no effect, then masturbate with latex gloves on, and then gloves and a condom covered carrot, or a latex dildo... If you want to use lube, make sure it is silicone... Oil breaks latex down..."

symptoms latex allergies for women using condoms and also have herpes? complications of herpes after sex with latex condom? My main question is what are the symptoms of latex allergies in latex from a condom. Can having herpes make a women more prone to a vaginal latex allergies. I have the classic yeast infection symptoms. Itching red tenderness yellowish discharge. I will of course get some yeast infection cream from a drug store. Then see a dr if necessary but for future reference I'm wondering if the latex in the condom could cause a yeast infection or complication for herpes. This is personal and sensitive responses only with intelligent advice would be greatly appreciated. Category

steve replied: "yeah you may be sensitive to latex. sometimes latex sensitivities cause tenderness, itching, and actual yeast infections. latex may be an irritant to the vaginal tissue and it can sometimes even irritate to the point of causing a herpes outbreak. i would switch to polyurethane condoms for a while and then maybe switch back to latex (sometimes you can sort of desensitize yourself) if you like. polyurethane actually offers more protection in terms of preventing the spread of herpes, but the drawback is that it is not as elastic and some people find that annoying. just get a 7-day yeast infection treatment (long, but much better than 1 or 3 day treatment) and look into getting prescription herpes medication if you havent already (works great for most people). and when everything is cleared up, use the polyurethane condoms and you will be much more comfortable im sure."

Latex allergy? Hello, I think I may have a very slight allergy to latex (condoms). The next morning I tend to have a pain in my lower abdomen. It could be anything but Im wondering if anyone else has a latex allergy and if you can tell me what kind of symptoms you have....Thanks.

nickipettis replied: "the skin touches the latex gets red, itchy if the allergy is bad enough, it affects your blood pressure everywhere. the pain in the abdomen the next day doesn't sound like an allergy, but like sore muscles."

Sugar replied: "That is not an allergy.....It sounds like something else."

What are the symptoms of a LATEX REACTION DOWN THERE ...? Is itchieness, puffy/swollen, sore symptoms? it's been like this over 24 hours now.. we are each others first and only. NO WAY is it an sti/std. We used different condom to usual - a "monster energy" drink condom. I have no previous allergies to latex or anything.. I do get rashes on my legs and hands sometimes though. What can i do in the mean time til it goes away?? PLEASE HELP! :(

Alexis replied: "It might be a reaction to the lube/flavouring of the different condom - there might have been a different chemical in there which your vagina doesnt like. If you have had sex before and never had a reaction to condoms then I doubt it is a latex reaction, but it might be something to do with the type. Head to a chemist and see if you can find any creams there that sound like they will help. And keep wearing clean, dry underwear and wash the area thoroughly. If it starts to smell or you get burning pains then it may have turned into an infection and you should go and get checked out at the doctor. Otherwise, you should be fine. And dont use those condoms again!"

A1 replied: "Hi, Although I think the problem is 'most-likely' long and or short term allergic reactions to 'something' COMBINED WITH a weakened lymph liver kidney and immune systems - IF the following symptoms would ever occur - I think the worst it might possibly be is deadly bacterial meningitis. The two quotes below are from: <> <> <> “IF a rash is present, it may indicate a particular cause of meningitis; for instance, meningitis caused by meningococcal bacteria may be accompanied by a characteristic rash.” <> <> “The MOST common symptoms of meningitis are headache and neck stiffness associated with fever, confusion or altered consciousness, vomiting, and an inability to tolerate light (photophobia) or loud noises (phonophobia). SOMETIMES, especially in small children, only nonspecific symptoms may be present, such as irritability and drowsiness.” <> For further details see: <> <> <><> For further information on itch rash illnesses and for long term solutions TO THEM ALL - the following link has considerable info within a ‘report’ I recently posted: <> <> I truly hope what you learn will help you to decide on the correct choices that will remedy your painful malady in the future. Am I allergic to latex? Whenever me and my Fiance' use condoms, they burn my insides really bad. It hurts! But I don't get welts or swell up or anything. I'm trying to Google Latex allergy symptoms but from what the symptoms tell me, I'm not allergic. When I wear a band-aid for a couple days, the area under the band-aid gets really red and itchy. But I can wear latex gloves just fine. WHAT IS WRONG?! (Oh and yes, we DO use lube, the lube doesn't bother me)

Gepettoh replied: "try goat skin condoms"

Sebboh is back! replied: "Latex makes me itchy all over, so I assume I'm allergic. try just getting non-latex condoms and see if that helps, I tried them and they work really well. Or go on birth control ."

Latex allergy getting severe fast.Doc not taking me seriously.Second opion or just suck it up? I am a Personal Care Attendant and we are always are using latex gloves as they are much cheaper than the latex free.Which I now wear. So after many years of getting slight symptoms like Burning around the area touched by ANY latex, including condoms and balloons. Redness. Burning. Pain. And itchiness. My allergy has now suddenly got very much worse. Just recently at work I was restocking the gloves,NOT wearing them, but they came in contact with my skin. After a few minutes my hand and all the way up my arm was on fire!Red welts, swelling, blisters.Pain and burning. And itchy like crazy! Does any one know what I mean? We had no choice but to take me to the ER where I was given a strong dose of an antihistamine Phernagon which worked well. I have suffered a severe anaphalatic attack from a med before, so I saw my Dr about this ASAP only to be told to "change jobs."Or avoid latex at all costs.Told me it was NOT anaphalatis. CONT:::::::: I don't trust his judgement on this diagnosis. My gut say's otherwise. I don't want another anaphaltic attack because he was wrong. Yes and I know about spelling mistakes in here. Thank you.

diStuRb€d §ouL replied: "I would see another doctor, it's easier than changing jobs."

morgy replied: "trust your gut feelings get a second opinion"

Bobby B replied: "Maybe your allergic to latex.. and there is no cure for allergies.. but, then again you should seek a second medical opinion."

country jenny replied: "Unfortunately the body can suddenly become alergic to things that it has tolerated in the past. Do not let the Dr fob you off ask for a second opinion and for a referal to your local allergy clinic, Drs do not like spending money on these things so don't let them put you off. I suddenly became allergic 8 years ago it seemed to everything food, tight clothes, I would swell up with huge welts that could grow so big I could not get my clothes on, the itching and burning was unbearable and still is sometimes, I found good old Germoline is wonderful for instant relief, I ended up on steriods and strong antihistamine tabs, unfortunately the normal dose of antihistamine was not enough and I had to take double the amount but that was the only way to get relief. You say latex free gloves are expensive but you may be able to get them on prescription. Have you tried wearing thin cotton cloves under the latex this way they would not be touching the skin. You must stress that this is not only painfull but it is affecting you livelyhood as well. You must get allergy tested at your allergy clinic as sometimes they can help you avoid other triggers. People poo poo this when it happens to you but when it happens to them they understand how you are suffering, you have my sympathy. if they put you on steriods please be aware of the fact that the body becomes dependant on them and that when taken for long periods you have to slowly wean yourself back off, saying this they did help me tremendously. If you have a camera it helps if you get photographic evidence my Dr kept fobbing me off as everytime I managed to get in to see him the condition had eased, but when I took pictures to him at its worst that was when he took me seriously. I can only wish you good luck and hope this problem gets the full attention it deserves. If you need to sound off to someone and need a friendly ear just drop me a line on my e-mail."

sonnydays15 replied: "Technically, it wasn't anaphylaxis, just a severe allergic reaction. Anaphylaxis is system wide allergic reaction that causes everything to swell, including your throat, which is the biggest danger since it can cause suffocation. That being said, it was still a pretty severe allergic reaction and you should get checked out. Nowadays, a doctor's office has to have non-latex gloves, not just for staff but for patients that might be allergic to latex. If they don't, they're not practicing standard of care. Bring this up to the doc, and get a referral to an allergist."

Pangolin replied: "There are people who are sensitive to latex, and those who are allergic. You sound like you are allergic. (My questions for latex sensitive people revolve around balloons and underwear, which typically has latex in the elastic) Anaphylaxis is a little more of a reaction than what you described. It involves a lot of swelling, wheezing, breathing problems and many times, death. That's not to say that your reaction isn't concerning - it is. You need to go to an allergist and have the proper allergy testing done. You may also need to find a new line of work that doesn't involve exposure to latex. Most medical products are now latex-free, but there are still things that contain latex that you might not think about - blood pressure cuff tubing, stoppers in medication vials, things like that. Your health and safety are at stake here, and it is YOUR responsibility to get yourself the proper care, which includes avoiding latex. So, find yourself an allergist and take it from there. Good luck."

Penny P replied: "So, an anaphylactic shock would be a reaction where you have reactive swelling that obstructs your airways and then some.....it doesn't sound like you had that, but you definately had a severe reaction to latex. You should get an epi pen for when you have accidental exposure to latex. I'm surprised your MD didn't give you one. This exposure certainly sounds bad, but the next one could be worse, and your airway could become obstructed. You never know when an allergy is going to take off like that. I have heard that latex allergies can be progressive like that. It is for that reason that alot of hospitals are doing away with latex all together. (for instance, the hospital where I work has virtually no latex products anymore, and actually forbids latex balloons) If your doctor doesn't find this serious, I would get a different doc. Seriously. I would not mess around with this. If you can get a different job with less chance of exposure, that would be a good thing too."

Have you had allergy reaction to elastic bands used with braces? What are the symptoms of allergy reaction to latex bands used in orthodontic treatment?

ximek09 replied: "i did not have an allergic reaction, but i have heard of it. talk to your orthodontist immediately; it can get worse."

JESSIEBLUE replied: "dont no about rubber bands but i in the past 4 years have become allergic to elastic ,i get a rash and feel sick ,"
