HOW TO calm down my swollen lip? (shellfish allergy)? HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
my upper lip is SO HUGE.. 5 times the normal size!!!
last night my whole body started itching and growing red bumps ALL over my body... then this morning I woke up and saw my upper lip HUGE!!
I just took Benadryl and put some anti-itch spray on...
What else can I do to calm down the swelling?????
I NEVER KNEW before that I had a shellfish allergy (I eat it very often... so I don't know what caused me to suddenly be allergic)
so I really don't know how to handle this...
please help!!
lynnette replied: "sometimes allergies (especially food allergies) come out of the blue.
benadryl is the best thing at the moment. take it as directed and don't overdose (as tempting as it may be, it's never a good idea). try icing your upper lip and see if that takes the swelling down. pretty much you just have to wait it out and wait for your body to calm down.
However, if you start having any difficulty breathing, go IMMEDIATELY to the hospital. the difficulty breathing would have most likely happened earlier, but that doesn't mean that it can't happen.
if everything is still the same tomorrow, i would call your doctor and find out exactly what's going on. they may schedule you for what they call a "scratch test" to find out if you are allergic to anything else. the test is uncomfortable, but not horrible.
hope you feel better!"
intelex replied: "Take TWO Benadryl, drink a quart or two of water over the course of 4 hours, and you'll be fine. Be careful in the future as the next attack could result in anaphylactic shock, which can be life-threatening.
Your lip is huge because the immune cells are on a rampage to eliminate the foreign protein in shellfish you ate. The swelling is caused by chemicals released by the immune cells, which increase vascular permeability. This makes it easier for them to jump back and forth between your red blood and white blood circulatory system and the intercellular spaces. It also causes blood fluid to leak into the tissues, increasing their size.
The important thing to remember is that you can gain or lose an allergy to anything, at any point in your life. You're done eating shellfish for the foreseeable future. Be carefull about other fish too. Now you'll need to keep Benedryl with you all the time. You never know when some cook prepared grilled shrimp right before your grilled chicken sandwich.
In the future, if you start getting that feeling, immediately take two Benadryl, drink lots of water, and seek professional medical attention if is becomes more difficult to breath."
Upper lip swollen Need Help? Last night my friends lip went numb and within the next two hours his upper lip became extremely swollen. Anyone know why? (No drugs, Alcohol, Allergies, or Violence had taken place)
Moonwake replied: "He may have an allergic reaction to something that he is not aware of. It could have been an insect bite too. Has the swelling gone down? If it persists then go to the Dr. unless they like big lips a lot of people pay a lot of money for them."
Experiencing swelling in my groin, upper lip, around eyes, is this a food allergy?? I'm experiencing Swelling in my Genitals, upper lip, around eyes, is this a food allergy??
I have been going thru some uncomfortable swelling and have finally pinpointed it might be chocolate thats doing this to me. My genitals is swelled up, pretty uncomfortable but no pain, my upper lip is swelled too and especially around my eyes..
I looked all of these symptoms up and food allergies can definitely cause all of this. I am very observant of what i eat and am almost 100% positive this is from a food allergy, which im guessing is from chocolate, but not any chocolate, ive been consuming really pure dark chocolate so maybe thats why.
Thanks for reading hope you can help me
justjan replied: "Yes, an allergy can cause all of that.
So can the mumps.
So can a variety of auto immune diseases
So get to a doctor. Quicksmart, and get tested!
I have a severe (anaphalactic) allergy to soil spores.
This appeared out of the blue 4 years ago.
It involves my body turning on itself, and within 2 minutes of the first symptom (dry cough) I am not breathing and only the use of adrenalin stops death occuring.
I'm telling you this, because looking back the earliest sign of allergy was swollen itchy eyes.
If you are truly allergic, every exposure can cause a more severe response, anaphalxis being the end of the line.
You don't want to get there without having life saving medication on hand, trust me. Finding out your allergy at that point is almost too late.
Your lips are your external signal that your airways may already be involved to some extent.
It could be a compound in the chocolate. It could be a particular process. You just don't know. And if this is an allergy, you are crazy to muck around with self diagnosis.
Things can get really bad, really suddenly.
For heavens sake, go see a doctor and ask for a referral to an allergist. Only then will you know for sure what you need to avoid in the future, and have the medicine to treat a bad reaction.
It's not worth dying for."
Please help! How to diagnose a swollen upper lip? So yesterday my boyfriend asked me if i could see any sort of pimples right below his nose (above lip) because it was very sore. I couldn't see any sort of blemish, so i simply told him there was nothing there. He told me he felt as though he was getting a very large pimple due to the severity of the soreness. When he awoke this morning, his whole upper lip was HUGE! he looked as if he'd just had botox injections. I do know that he has skin issues, like pimples on his head (in his hair), and he has on occasion had a large boyle on his face, but nothing like this. It doesn't even resemble a pimple or boyle, it's just a HUGE LIP! We have recently moved several hundred miles away from home, and the only thing i can think of is maybe allergies? but i would think it would cause his eyes to swell as well... I'm baffled. please help:(
360wacko replied: "it could be allergies new foods cleaners anything that he hasnt used before it could also be an infection that has gotten into a pimple or or an infection in the gums sometimes make your lips swollen

mat2818 replied: "Did you have Chris Brown over for dinner?"
scratchandpeck replied: "I would use a warm compress to see if it is a pimple, boil, or infected hair follicle. They will usually come to a head faster with a warm/hot compress. Don't use for more than 10 minutes at a time. Do this several times throughout the day. It could also possibly be a topical reaction to a spider bite/bug bite. If he develops any shortness of breath or throat swelling, obviously seek medical attention immediately and take a Benadryl (Childrens' liquid absorbs faster) on the way out the door to the ER."
I have a hard swollen upper lip? Is this an allergic reaction? Im allergic to cheese and bananas but it's a weak allergy so it hardly have any effects. But I ate a Big Mac one day and I noticed that it started to get itchy on my forearm and when I noticed t,there was a rash. Im using a prescripted steroids medical cream to calm the itch down
Harold R replied: "Avoid eating what gives you allergy! Sounds simple and logical but sometime difficult to follow."

do you know me? replied: "Well if the sweling was more around your bottom and less around your genitals I woud say it sounds like pin worms. Its worth looking in the med is sold over the counter to get rid of the worms if you have it"
nmtgirl replied: "It could be. All the areas you're describing are sensitive skin areas and are more reactive to food allergies. Try taking a benadryl and see if that takes the swelling down. If it persists more than a few days, you should probably see a doctor."
Red replied: "If you're pretty sure about the chocolate stay away for awhile then try a little & see if you react. If you stop eating chocolate yet continue to swell you may need the doctor for his advise."
Upper lip is swollen? A few days ago, the left side of my upper lip became swollen. It felt like a dentist numbed me, but it didn't hurt or itch, just felt like a small ball was inside my lip or something...
the next few days it happened again, but this time on the left side of my bottom lip!
What's wrong with me?
-this never happened before and I don't have any allergies.
kelly e replied: "Did you react to a new soap, or toothpaste or lip product?
Swelling of the lips, in most cases, is caused by an allergic reaction to an unknown component.
Try taking a benedryl the next time it happens or ice the lip.
Have you eaten anything new in the past few days (shell fish, wheat products, something with a lot of salt??)"
techman replied: "that is the standard reaction of the tissue to a bite. I think you may have bitten thos areas without realising, even while you slept. Possibly a dream or a tension moment asleep or awake."
Bryan replied: "That can be a reaction to any sort of food you have recently had; any household things you use daily i.e, soap, toothpaste, shampoo, makeup. Sometimes I bite my lip which also feels like what i think you might be feeling. Consider anything you might have recently started using around the house, for it might be causing the problem.
10 points to the best answer!"
why do i wake up and my upper lip is swollen? I have a cleft lip and since my last surgery, every once in a while i wake up and my upper lip is swollen and hard. it started happening a few years ago after i had my last surgery. i had been in vermont and was bitten by some bug in the middle of the night, woke up with my mouth swollen, and now randomly, a few times a year i will wake up like that again. i don't have any allergies that i know of, and i healed perfectly from my surgery, so what could it be?
its my whole upper lip, up to my nose. and it becomes rock hard, and looks like i have had collagen injections...
Kim replied: "you may be chewing on it or biting it at night"
the edge of my upper lip is very swollen. its got bubbles inside it what is it? i went to the doctors but he couldnt give me an exact reason of the cause. he said it is either an insect or food allergy
David H replied: "herpes."
c_l_s_ak replied: "maybe it's a cold sore?"
QuestioNNaire replied: "It sounds like a ulser or blisters?
Maybe go to the dentist?"
SpotsB4myeyes replied: "canker"
mdawg86 replied: "Well, from the sound of it, it sounds like an enlarged spit gland. Someone I know had one of those and had it removed. Very simple procedure. The doctor said it was just like plucking grapes. They just got to pluck them out. I hope I was of some help! Good luck. :)"
Why does my 4 year old have tiny bumps inside his upper lip near his gums? Yesterday my 4 year old woke up and had a huge swollen upper lip. This is the 3rd time he's had it in a year. Earlier this year the dentist told me he needed to have his upper right tooth pulled to prevent it from happening again. Well it happened again. I looked under the lip to see if there was an infection or anything unusual and found nothing.
Today my son woke up and his lip was no longer swollen. :) I recently looked under his lip again just to make sure he was okay and found a bunch of tiny white bumps inside his upper lip where it meets the gums. He said it hurts to put pressure on the area.
I can't find any info online. (I want to avoid bringing him to the doctor if he doesn't need to go.) Could it be a food allergy, a disease of some sort? Aside from the lip thing, he's perfectly healthy and active as usual.
He did get the tooth removed in February. Whatever it is came back. :(
The bumps are gone and the swelling hasn't come back. I don't know what it is or was though.
grandpa walleye replied: "It is an infected tooth and what you are seeing is a fistula. When it plugs up his lip swells. It then bursts like a zit and the swelling goes down. You should follow your dentists advice."
